Illumidoor Light System
Illumidoor Lighting System Project evolved from a client that sold products to Fire Halls in the North East United States, where Firetrucks were getting damaged when Firefighters were backing the Firetrucks into the Fire Hall after returning from an emergency call. The client requested that Digital Instruments, Inc. design and manufacture as system to reduce these incidences of accidents.
Our Engineering team led meetings to design the ideal product and solve our client’s problem. The design process focused on selecting sensors which had the capability to identify a lane violation in various weather conditions as well as bright sun light and darkness.
The sensors were wired into our control panel, which interacted with all the lighting and audible alarms which were mounted on the Fire House exterior, interior and within the Fire Truck Cab.
This project was a custom engineering project, one which required multiple design meetings and local test sites to develop the product. Our over 40 years of experience in the custom electronics design field allowed Digital to be the preferred partner for our client.
OUR PROCESS
Conducted in field study of the process, evaluated the opportunity and designed a lighting system which had alarms and emergency stops to help prevent the occurrence of firetrucks being accidentally driven into the fire hall building when backing into their bays.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS USED
External and Internal LED Light panels, LED Floor Strip Lighting, Control Center Panel with enclosure, in cab alarm beacon, emergency stop panel, wireless alarm control. Our materials include PCBs, LED Lights and LED Strip Lights, wireless radios and audible alarms.
TESTING/INSPECTION
Several Test Site operational systems were deployed and analyzed over a control period, tracked the results and client feedback, modified the system and redeployed.
The systems alarms have been calibrated to alert drivers of any variance of 3”-4” outside the intended back-up lane.
